Thanks to their euphoric post-hardcore-punk, the unusual brotherhood Chris Corsano and Paul Flaherty thorougly rewrote the concept of modern free jazz improvisation. They incorporate two different generations on one stage, but Corsano's bold punk esthetics connect very closely to Flaherty's dynamic excursions. The cd’s the pair released – a.o. The Hated Music and The Beloved Music - combine explosive improvisations and pure noise with more melodic lijnen. The pounding drums make sure it never goes off the rails. On their most recent album A Rock In The Snow and Snow Blind Avalanche they are joined by C. Spencer Yeh from Burning Star Core, who puts an edge on the spontaneous, vicious, explosive, trail-blazing free-noise-punk-jazz from Flaherty and Corsano. Listen to Flaherty - Corsano - Yeh The aLOSTaSOULS-collective offers a connecting program: The British-Belgian alliance Comasport approaches music with a specific sense for cosmic cohesion. Philip Begg aka Chalfont from Newcastle utilises acoustic and electronic material and creates layered music with crystalline, meditative depth. Bear Bones Lay Low is a project by the young Belgian based Venezuelan Ernesto Gonzalo. Corsano is one of the most versatile drummers of the moment.
Last year he made an indelible impression with a sparkling set - as
support act to The No-Neck Blues Band. In December he comes back with
sax veteran Paul Flaherty, one of the milestone musicians
from the American free jazz scene, and C. Spencer Yeh,
who also plays with the noise group Burning Star Core.
